Welcome to the West Islay Tidal website
information on the proposed Tidal Stream Array project.
The West Islay project lies approximately 6km off the Rinns of Islay, one of the southern and western most islands of Argyll and Bute, in South West Scotland.
The initial phase of the project is located in an area of seabed of approximately 2sq km with water depths of around 30metres. In fact much of the best resource is located in depths of less than 30metres which brings with its own challenges in dealing with the aggressive wave regime off the Islay coast.
Ultimately it is hoped that the site will have an installed capacity of many hundreds of MWs but the initial phase and the current consent application lodged with Marine Scotland for consideration In September 2013 is for a project of up to 30MWs. The application approach is technology neutral albeit based on an open rotor device such as that provided by Siemens MCT or Alstom TGL.
This site is designed provide a vehicle for providing information about the technology, environmental impacts and the consenting process; and to obtain feedback from members of the general public. We would welcome comments or questions about the project and our plans either via the projects dedicated enquiry email address islay@dpenergy,com or via the contact details on the contacts page.
